Causes for Neuropathy and Neuropathic Pain


Causes of NeuropathyThere are many cases of neuropathy that are considered as idiopathic, meaning the cause for that particular case is unknown. There are several types of neuropathy that are developed just because of diabetes. Besides, some neuropathy cases, known as acquired neuropathies, are originated due to the following possibilities:

  • Shingles
  • Vitamin deficiencies and nutritional issues, usually lack of vitamin B
  • Pressure on nerves or trauma, generally through crutch, receptive motion or cast
  • Alcoholism
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Tumors
  • Autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus or Gullain-Barre syndrome
  • Inherited disorders like amyloid polyneuropathy or Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease
  • Infections and diseases related to liver, kidney, underactive thyroid, HIV/AIDS or Lyme
  • Various kinds of cancer
  • Chemotherapy
  • Exposure to poison through toxins
